Why fanfiction is the only Harry Potter content for me
If it is not related to fanfiction and fan creation, I want nothing to do with Harry Potter. I actively avoid supporting J.K. Rowling in every way I possibly can. Her power and influence is insidious, and permeates almost every aspect of my life, but I cannot abide what she has said and done.
Poetry and Music
I’ve been a poet and a writer all my life. Growing up I wrote poems in journals, on post-it notes, in thank-you cards and letters. Words sprawled across pages, some of them unbearably cheesy, corny, angsty, particularly as I got to high school. For years I have been honing my craft, and I continue to […]
My Fanfiction Journey
When I was younger, I was incredibly shy about how much I loved fanfiction. Ashamed even. Reading and writing fanfiction were solitary activities, and I hid anything having to do with them from all but my closest friends. I became more open about my love of fanfiction and began to blend my identity as a […]
Adulthood, Time, and Direction
One of the first things I thought to myself when I decided to let this blog loose was: okay Talia, what are you going to write about now? What do the people want to hear? After thinking about it for a while, I decided that my first approach would just be to start with telling […]
Black History Month 2021: Some Books to Start You Off!
I love Black History Month. Honestly, I love any time when I can see Blackness as celebratory and on full display in a way that we choose. Where we are thriving and vibing, rather than simply surviving. As the saying goes Black is beautiful! When we show out, we do it in the best way. […]
Book Review: These Violent Delights by Chloe Gong
Someone told me there was a YA fantasy set in 1920s Shanghai loosely based on Romeo and Juliet and I was hooked. These Violent Delights was everything I needed, wanted, expected, and more. I do not always go for romance tropes, but I enjoyed the twist on the enemies to lovers trope of Romeo and Juliet to enemies to lovers to enemies to reluctant allies as they work together to fight the evil that has risen in the streets of Shanghai.
Announcement: Shift in Patreon Content
Dear Wandering Troupe, Over the past few months it has become increasingly clear to me that my current production schedule is unsustainable. I am taking the opportunity that the launch of my new podcast in March presents to restructure my patron tiers and benefits in order to reflect the work I will be doing for […]
Book Review: You Should See Me in a Crown by Leah Johnson
Reading You Should See Me in a Crown was like catching a breath of fresh air. This delightful young adult novel is invigorating; I am incredibly moved by the story of its protagonist, Liz Lighty. I enjoyed her story line for a few reasons, but the one that stands out is how she ultimately stays […]
Book Review: The Dating Plan by Sarah Desai
The second I heard the words “fake dating” I knew I was in, and I did not find myself at all disappointed by the romance novel that is The Dating Plan by Sarah Desai. From the first page I was charmed by its protagonist, Daisy Patel. Daisy is a fantastically sculpted character. She is confident […]

Book Review: Raybearer by Jordan Ifueko
When someone hands me a book and says that it is one of the best books I will ever read I am often skeptical. There is no reason to be skeptical when it comes to Raybearer, the debut novel of Jordan Ifueko. From its first pages I was utterly enchanted by its protagonist, Tarsai, who […]
Another year gone, a new year begun
2020 “won” but there is no competition when a new year has come 2020 was a year full of loss, on both a personal and global scale. The Covid-19 pandemic has reshaped the entire world, and how humanity moves forward from this point will never be the same. One popular meme claims that there was […]
