Triggered: an anxiety poem
Triggered: an anxiety poem

A bite taken out of soft flesh
fruit ripe and ready for harvest
I wonder whether wondering
will let us break free, let us be.
Sending thoughts and prayers.
Sending good vibes and well-wishes.
Meanwhile I still feel so hollow.
Still can’t shower, sleep, or do dishes.
This won’t bring back those
who were killed in the streets.
This won’t bring back those
killed in their own sheets.
Sometimes I wonder if this pain
will ever go away.
Sometimes I wonder if it’s me
who’ll be murdered on this day.
People may think me weak
may say I’m easily triggered.
But at the end of the day
I’m not the one pulling the trigger.
